Mission Statement

As a community to take on board the dictates of the outcome of the Diocesan Assembly Commission, acting as an interface between our Parish and Parish Priest

Aims

  • As Christians - How to show Jesus, and be Jesus' representatives in our needy world of today.
  • To be friendly and welcoming, always seeing Jesus in others.
  • To deepen our commitment to all those souls in need especially the poor, and the elderly.
  • To continue to explore way of making the Church meaningful to children and young people.
  • By using different forms of media, reaching out to our fringe parishioners those in the villages.

Spirituality

Aim

To enable richer and more varied spiritual experiences for members of our parish family, members of the other local churches and the wider community.

How

By providing resources for spiritual development
By providing opportunities for spiritual guidance e.g. spiritual days,
By finding means to support each other spiritually
By making ourselves more open to the Holy Spirit through prayer
By becoming aware in a practical way of the riches of other faith groups
By encouraging shared spiritual celebrations

The sick and housebound
Music Ministry
Welcomers
Flower Ministry etc.

The diocese, its resources and members of other Churches

Outcome

Deepen our understanding of the Scriptural and Sacramental life in the parish and thereby ensuring the continuation of the parish with or without a resident priest

More positive links with the local Churches and other parishes in the diocese

Education and Formation

Aim

To enable people to learn more about the Faith and so grow in the knowledge and love of God

How

Through the liturgy
Through Courses e.g. Lent, Advent
Through "one off" days e.g. Sister Angela, Spiritual Days
Through Sacramental Preparation Courses
Through RCIA
Through Ecumenical Connections
Through our Primary School e.g. by participating in the annual Year 3 event at St Denys' Church
Through attending Diocesan Events
Through widening knowledge of the practical aspects of the Faith

Outcome

Evangelisation and Mission

Aim

First to convince all the members of our parish family that through their Baptism they have the responsibility of bringing to others both Catholic and non-Catholic Christ's message. It is not only the job of priests and religious

How

By the way we live
By witnessing the Gospel for others
By explaining and making sure that people really understand what evangelisation is
By listening to others and observing the times in which we live
By becoming aware that we are responsible, collectively and individually, to share the message of the Gospel with others in what we say and do
By continuing to develop closer links with our twin parish in the diocese of Masaka

Our entire
Parish Family, Father Porphyrius and his parish family

Outcome

By being seen as an active sign of Christ locally e.g. through social action... by initiatives in the area of justice and peace e.g. Aquaboxes, Cafod, participating in Christian Aid Week etc....

Communications

Aim

Establish effective means of communication between all the members of our parish family -both active and "resting", the diocese, local churches and the wider community
